About the Event
Fill me in!
Tulum, you are such a show-off! This bohemian style beach town is famous for its turquoise waters and white sand beaches. This hippie destination is full of mayan culture, wellness and yoga, cenotes, ancient ruins and *hands down* the best tacos (yes, I said tacos!). It's a foodie's delight, a yogi's dream and a beach lover's paradise. This is the place that you dream about when you are yearning to reset and rejuvenate. And, it welcomes you with open arms. Tulum is located about 90 miles south of Cancun on the Caribbean coast of Northeast Mexico known as the Riviera Maya. Join us, on a yoga + meditation experience that begs you to go a little deeper and reconnect with your inner artist!
This retreat will take place at Holistika, a holistic center unlike anything you have never seen before. Holistika is a unique holistic center, hotel and community set in the middle of the Mayan jungle about 3 miles from the most magical, beautiful beaches and minutes from the Tulum city square where you can explore even more culture, shopping and food (during your free time)! As you come along on this personal journey, you will connect with others, enjoy plenty of personal time to journal, dip in the pool, walk the lush green grounds that whispers with inspiration, explore the art walk, eat clean and plenty, explore the culture, tour the ruins, soak in the sun at the beach, revel in the sunset and practice yoga, meditation with workshops daily. We will also participate in a traditional cacao ceremony and float away during a sound healing experience. And, all of this is intentionally planned around a full moon. This will be a perfect time to reflect, to move forward and to get in touch with your creative streak! All of our workshops and daily work will be themed around the well-known and coveted book 'The Artist's Way' by Julia Cameron, which not only encourages you to take risks and create more (as it is your birthright!) but it also leads you to a path that enlightens and enriches your own personal endeavors. The book is a true, transformational *game changer*, for sure!
Accommodations
Have I said enough? Let me share some more! The accommodations are heavenly, whether you choose the yogi dorm, the Double Room with a roomie (if you are traveling alone, we can connect you with someone) or your own personal King (or Goddess) suite, rest assured you will have cozy beds with premier cotton linens, dreamy art deco decor, hammocks (in the suites), direct access to the enormous swimming pool right outside of your door, wifi (bet you won't need it), water, air-conditioning, sa-weet bathrooms and more! And you are always a short, magical walk to the restaurant, yoga shala, art walk and sound dome *sigh*. Pricing breakdown and descriptions are listed below.
Oh, but the food!
3 meals per day will be provided. Holistika has a plant-based restaurant onsite! Tierra gathers the best of conscious eating creating a flavor fest in your mouth. Making toxin-free meals cool again by infusing and balancing flavors with locally sourced ingredients and plant based recipes that are always filled with love. Before you are done with breakfast, you will be looking forward to lunch! Cacao and matcha bowls, coffee, avocado toasts, chilaquiles, quiche and so much more! And, that's just for starters!
We also know there may be times that you may want to expand your culinary taste and try other places while we are out exploring Tulum. And, that's okay! Please do! Keep in mind the 3 meals per day that are included are the meals we will share together at Holistika.
Good-to-knows
Tulum's climate is hot and humid. Hear me out, *hot and humid*. When you pack (because you know you are coming!), pack light. Think: Flowy and cool yoga clothes, sun dresses or shorts for free time and exploring days, sunglasses, hats, messy top knots or skip the bun and try a braid to keep cool (and chill babe), tank tops, shorts etc. Bring extra undergarments since we will practice yoga usually 2 times per day. We will provide a packing list when you sign up, so we will have you covered there too!
Also, Tulum is a cash based society. Most restaurants and establishments don't take credit cards (this would be for your souvenirs and extras). Before arrival or even upon arrival make sure you take out enough pesos to last through your trip. Trust me on this one!

Tiffany Langdon
Bio:
My passion lies in studying hindu mythology and yoga philosophy. I tend to teach yoga classes that weave asana and mythology together including fluid movement and carefully chosen postures to strengthen the body and to prepare the body for meditation. I urge students to practice yoga to develop a deeper understanding of their 'true self'. My classes are challenging but fun, safe, light-hearted and accessible to all levels and I invite every student to be satisfied with their yoga practice as it is today and to enjoy their own journey. You will find my love of music pours into my teachings and I love to infuse my studies of the chakra system and Tantra yoga philosophy into my classes
Join me for a session in Louisville Kentucky or travel with me to a yoga + meditation retreat in one of the most beautiful cities, towns or villages around the world! You will experience a sense of connection with yourself and others in a safe and fun environment that encourages transformation.
Shanna Portman
Bio:
Shanna was Introduced to yoga as a small child; her mother embraced the hippie era and surrounded her world with all sorts of alternative health modalities and spiritual practices. Yoga stuck. Shanna’s yoga practice had been primarily an “at-home” practice for over twenty years with maybe a handful of studio classes. In 2016, Shanna wanted to deepen her practice, and enrolled in the 200 hr teacher training at Eternal Health Yoga. Two months in to her studies Shanna realized that there was no turning back. Fully embracing all that she has learned and looking forward to the constant learning and practice that the future holds for her, Shanna is now a certified yoga instructor and stays busy teaching yin, Hatha Flow, and Restorative yoga classes. She is looking forward to continuing her education in London with Judith Lassiter, the founder of restorative yoga (Shanna’s passion), this spring.
Yoga Styles:
Most days during the retreat we will practice yoga two times per day. This retreat is open to all yoga practitioners of all levels. However, a little experience will be helpful for you. If you are new to yoga and want to know more about what to expect, let's talk and we will find out if this retreat is a good fit for you. We want you to feel comfortable, after all!
The morning practices (usually led by Tiffany) will be similar to a Hatha Flow, Vinyasa Flow or Slow Vinyasa Flow class. You can expect a lot of focus on breath (pranayama), alignment, a safe practice and meditation. There are always modifications available and the use of props such as blocks, strap and bolster is recommended (and provided!). We will explore different meditation techniques that open the channels to connect deeper with your inner artist and creativity!
The night practices (usually led by Shanna) will be similar to a Yin, Gentle or Restorative class. Shanna's gentle approach and subtle adjustments encourage you to soften, let-go and find relaxation after a day full of adventure or connection. You will linger in intentionally selected postures that will signal every cell in your body to truly rest! A perfect ending to each day and to get you ready for the most dreamy night (pun intended!).
Language
Since English is not the native tongue, it would be courteous to try to learn a few greetings and a few basic phrases in Spanish. The locals appreciate the attempt! Although, you will find a lot of locals in the hot spots do speak a little English, embrace the opportunity to try something new, even if its not perfect!
How do you get there?
Flight expenses are not covered in the retreat cost. When you book your flight, you must arrive at Cancun International Airport (CUN). You should arrive by 1pm on June 14th 2019. Upon arrival, there will be a shuttle waiting to pick you up as you gather your luggage and exit the airport. Shuttle cost is ONLY covered by the retreat cost as long as you arrive by 1pm. If you choose to arrive later than that, you will be resposible for booking your own transportation to Holistika Tulum (We can provide tips on alternate transportation).
Shuttle services will also be provided back to Cancun International Airport (CUN) as we depart. Departing flights should be booked on June 20th 2019 after 2pm. If you book a flight for an earlier departure you are responsible for booking your own transportation to the airport (We can also provide tips on alternate transportation).
Travel Insurance and Flight Insurance
We recommend when you travel, to purchase travel insurance. Also, check out your coverage with your current health insurance. Foreign travel is often not covered and you must ensure you are protected in the event of an emergency. This yoga retreat does not cover expenses associated with any unforeseen circumstances that could arise such as inclement weather, accidents, health troubles and/or need for medical care. We also recommend paying extra for flight insurance. Although we never anticipate inclement weather or emergencies to happen, there are circumstances that are out of our hands. Give yourself the peace of mind when you book! We will not be responsible for covering flight expenses in the event of a cancellation.
